With fall coming up, I knew I needed to find myself a new staple shoe. From blogs, runway, and street style photos I developed an infatuation with classic looking loafers. I love the versatility of them with their classic shape and style. But, I also love the idea of taking an unconventional spin on the normally bland style. Here is a look at a few styles I’ve been eying online, and a peek at the pair I ended up buying.
These teal suede Dr Marten tasseled loafers are a steal of a deal at only $45. Docs are known for their impeccably made boots, particularly in work boot styles. Recently they’ve ventured out into much more stylish footwear and are definitely hitting the nail on the head with this collection. These loafers are from the “Modern Classics” collection which I find quite fitting. A classic shoe with a completely updated style.
A bit more of an investment piece, the G.H. Bass Larson Beefroll Leather Loafers come with a bit of a high price tag at $198. Having said that, they are the perfect classic shape in a loafer. An all black look might be a good way to go when trying the loafer. Instead of adding a pop of color with the shoe itself, why not try an all black loafer with a bright sock. It’s a much easier way to change the look while getting the most wear out of your new shoes. Plus this shoe is completely leather (including the sole) so you can expect a shoe that will last you years of wear.
Got the money? I only give this selection as an “I wish” sort of deal. These are definitely not for everyone (or their price range) but sometimes it’s just to just look at pretty things and wish you could have them. These Giacomorelli studded calfskin loafers ring in at just over $600 Canadian. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford things like this. And if you can? Congratulations, kind sir. You’re doing something right.
When in doubt – don’t be afraid to thrift. For whatever reason old men seem to take good care of their shoes. Finding a pair of good condition loafers proved to be quite easy, finding this pair on my first visit for only $10. They’ve already gone through the pain of being worn in with someone else, meaning I just get to enjoy! Not exactly sure what the “R” stands for… but I’ll take it!
If loafers seem like something you’d like to try out, good luck! These styles are only the tip of the iceberg online. I have no doubt in my mind that you could find a style that fits your look with ease. If you’re feeling up to it, I really suggest checking out the local thrift store. You may be surprised with what you can find!
